September 1st 2013 – Life in the Kingdom – The 2 most important questions in life

As we kick-off the fall series “Life in the Kingdom” we look at the “gospel” of Jesus from Mark 1:14-18 that teaches us a disciple’s mindset and the two most important questions in life that enable us to continuously grab hold of more of the Kingdom of God.

Life in the Kingdom: The 2 most important questions

Sept 1st, 2013  by Kasey Crawford

Today’s Passages: Mark 1:14-18; Matthew 6:10

The two most important questions in the life of a follower of Jesus:

What is ________ _____________ to me?

What am _____ going ______ about it?

Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”                                  Mark 1:14-15

Kingdom: What does Jesus mean by “Kingdom?”

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven….Matthew 6:10

The “kingdom” is when God’s will is done on _________ as it is in ____________.

At Hand: It’s an ______________. Reach out and ______ it!

So the gospel that Jesus preaches in Mark 1 is: there is a life-changing opportunity to grab hold of more of heaven in your life!

But how do we grab hold of more of the Kingdom of God in our life?

Repent: simply means __________ or ___________ your mind

So to live out a lifestyle of repentance, the disciple’s question is:

What is God saying to me?

Believe = trust something enough that you ______ on it

So to live out a lifestyle of believing, the disciple’s question is:

What am I going to do about it?

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.                                                                                                        Mark 1:16–18

What is God saying to them?

He is giving them an ______________ to be a disciple.

What does disciple mean?  Student, ___________ or _______________

Jesus is inviting them to learn how to _______ ________ from the Master, to learn how to live the _______ of the Kingdom.

Jesus was a walking _______________of the kingdom of God-a picture of heaven’s goodness and power fully leading and flowing in and through a life.

Jesus walked this earth and showed us what the full ______________ of __________ life looks like.

So what is God saying to them?  He is giving them an invitation to learn from the _____________ how to live _________ in the Kingdom.

What are they going to do about it? Are they going to stay in the _________, or get out and follow the Master?

So as we dig in to the Sermon on the mount in the months to come, the challenge to you is: come with the heart of a disciple-one who is ready to learn from Jesus how to live life in the Kingdom by regularly asking “God what are you saying to me?” &  “What do you want me to do about it?”         Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime?
