Life in the Kingdom: Happy are the pure in heart

Today’s Passages: Matthew 4:17-5:8, Psalm 24:3-6, Matthew 6:23-24, Revelation 3:15-20  

 

Happy are the pure in heart for they shall see God.  Matthew 5:8

What does Jesus mean by “see” God?

To “See God” has a long biblical tradition that has to do with a current, active _______________ of God’s _______________.

 

What does it mean to be pure in heart?

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. Psalm 24:3-4

According to Psalm 24:3-6, the pure in heart are two things.

Those who:

  1. Do not swear by what is _____________.

What is swearing by what is false?

The #1 falsehood people “swear” by is acting _____ _____ they are pure in heart.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves.” I John 1:8

What is lifting our soul to an idol?

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Matthew 6:23-24

The path of pursuing purity of heart is not about following a list of ________ for their sake, it is about desiring to live life close to God, tangibly experiencing his presence; and therefore I seek to get everything off the __________ of my heart except God!
