The book of Acts: The Holy Spirit is for everyone

October 28, 2012  by Kasey Crawford

Today’s Passage: Acts 2:1-21

(Review) Acts 1:1-26

In the first chapter, the author (Luke) gives us a framework, a lens, through which to understand everything else that happens in the book, namely: you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…to the end of the earth    Acts 1:8

(New) Acts 2:1-21

And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance… “we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed…                                                                                                                                                           Acts 2:3-5,11,12

When the Holy Spirit comes upon us, it is in order to meet the _________ of the moment that will best bring the Kingdom of God, according to God’s wisdom and purpose.

That is what “spiritual” gifts are: the ______________ power of God to represent Jesus and bring the kingdom of heaven that meet the needs of the moment.

When you are dealing with the Holy Spirit….expect to be __________, challenged, ______________.

God loves to work in ways that _____ can not do on our own so that ____ gets the glory and hearts turn up to Him.

In verses 2:17-21 Peter claims that what is happening is the fulfillment of God’s prophecy through Joel about the “_______ ________.”

The “Last Days”….

Peter (and the rest of the new testament, and the life of Jesus) teaches that the “last days”, began with __________ in which he, as the Messiah, commenced a season of the kingdom of God breaking into the earth through the power of the Holy Spirit.

And now that Jesus has ascended in victory over death, sin and the power of Satan, he has poured out His Spirit upon his followers to carry on his ________ of seeing the Kingdom of God advance on earth until that “great and magnificent day” in God’s sovereign timing when Jesus returns and consummates his kingdom.

It is crucial to note that the prophecy of Joel says that in the “last days” the Spirit of God will be poured out upon ________ of God’s people-men, women, children and servants.

Instead of the Spirit of God being upon the select ______ for ministry (the priests and kings), now the Spirit is being poured out upon everyone for the sake of ____________.

This is why Elevation has in our core passions, “everyone is a minister”. We are living in season of fulfilled promise when the Holy Spirit will be poured out and _____________ for all of God’s people.

Taking it home….

Do you try to do things for God on your own strength?

Or do you rely upon the supernatural power of God to be your source of strength and power when serving Him?

Challenge this week…Pray for a divine appointments with someone and pray for the Holy Spirit to rest upon you and fill you up for whatever the need is in the moment.  And expect the unexpected!
