Childlike Faith: Expectation

June 30th, 2013  by Kasey Crawford

Today’s Passages: Mark 10:15, Luke 12:32, Mark 5:21-6:6

“Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”   –Jesus     Mark 10:15

Fear not little flock, for it is your father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

Jesus is teaching his disciples to, like a little child, ___________ good things from your heavenly father.

Jesus is saying: (in Luke 12:32) “Don’t worry, live in a place of rest, because it makes God ___________ to give you His kingdom.”

Jesus invites his followers to live with childlike ______________ that God takes pleasure in giving us more and more of his life-transforming kingdom.

3 people in Mark 5:21-6:6 shows us that:

what you expect is what you ______________.

An outcasted woman…

she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” (5:27-28)

“…Daughter, your faith has healed you.” 5:34

When we expect things that are in line with the _____________ of God, we will experience more of that aspect of God.

A synagogue leader…

Like the woman, this man is also in a dire situation, his daughter is dying.  But also like the woman he is full of ____________ faith. “Please come put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” (5:23)

He expects that Jesus wants to give ________ ________ to his children.

Immediately the girl stood up…At this they were completely astonished.  (5:42)

What is translated completely astonished is actually three words in the Greek that are worth breaking down…

Exestesan –a verb, means ___________ or amazed

Megale- an adjective, means large or ________

Ekstasei- a noun, means ______________ or ecstasy

Are you “greatly astonished with amazement” at the power of Jesus’ work in your life?

His Hometown…

Jesus left there and went to his hometown… “Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son? And they took offense at him… He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 And he was amazed at their lack of faith. (6:1-6)

It says that he could not do any miracles (dynamis) there (6:5).  The word miracle here is the same word as power in “Jesus realized that power (dynamis) had gone out from him. (5:30)

 Dynamis =power, mighty deed, miracle

Dynamis. Same word in 5:30 and 6:5 , hugely different result.

Mark 5:30 The woman’s expectant faith brought a ___________ of Jesus’ power.

Mark 6:5 The hometown crew’s the expectation of nothing kept Jesus’ power ___________ up within.

Do you live in expectation or more of God’s kingdom?
