Today’s Passages: Matt 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, Luke 10:5-7

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”                                                              Matthew 28:18–20

Some key things to see about the Co-missioning of Jesus’s followers:

  • It’s _________ mission that we get to be a part of. (vs.18-20)
  • The mission will be done in His ___________ (vs. 18)
  • He will always be ___________, because its His mission, not ours (vs.20)
  • He is inviting us to be a ____________ in what He is doing (vs.19)
  • The word “Go” that we read as an imperative, a command, is not actually in the imperative tense, it is in the ____________ tense and is better read “As you are going…”    The word poreuomai means: to go, to proceed, to _________, to walk.
  • The first command of the commission is actually __________ ______________!

A better reading of the Matthew 28:19 is:

God doesn’t call us to save the whole world, he calls us to advance His Kingdom by making disciples, _______ person at a time!
