Today’s Passages:  Colossians 3:17, 1 Thess 5:18, Psalm 107:1-10, 77:1-20, Philippians 1:18-19, Genesis 41:51-52

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17

We are meant to be a people of thanksgiving that _____________ with gratitude in a world of negativity.

As part of the fight against cynicism, grumbling, and complaining, the scriptures reveal a people of God that are intentional about setting their minds toward thanksgiving, in _______ things.

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.                                                1 Thessalonians 5:18

One hugely important thing to notice is that it says, “Give thanks ____all circumstances.” It does not say, “Give thanks ______ all circumstances.”

How can we give thanks in all things?

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story… Psalm  107:-2

1.        Practice recounting God’s ________ goodness in order to foster present ______________.

If we are not intentional about developing an _______________ of gratitude then it is easy to slide toward negativity.

2.    When you remember God’s past goodness it brings __________ for the future.

I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. 2 In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord…I consider the days of old, the years long ago. 6 I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.”                                        Psalm 77:1,5-6

The Psalmist remembers the testimony of God in his life to stir up hope that since God has done it ___________ He will do it __________.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.   Phil 1:18–19

For the Apostle Paul, even though he is in prison, He can give thanks IN all circumstances because he knows what God has done in the past and is therefore ____________ in what God is going to do in the future.

Giving thanks in all things is a confession of ___________and _______ that God is a _________ heavenly father who loves to rescue and redeem and heal us from the pain and suffering of a broken world.

Even Joseph who was unjustly imprisoned for 14 years was able to say:

“God has made me forget all my troubles… and God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”   Genesis 41:51–52

That’s the kind of God we are children of.  That’s the kind of redeeming, healing, delivering power we can hope in that ___________ us to give thanks IN all things.
