Today’s Passages: Matt 11:25-30; John 5:19-20, 15:5-11; Luke 5:15-16

At that time Jesus said, “…you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children….Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”     Matthew 11:25–30

(Review)

He is the ultimate ____________ for us to follow. He invites you to follow him and learn from him in such a way that ______ can say about your own life: “_______ yoke is easy and my burden is light!

What does it look like for Jesus to posture his heart like a little child so that he has a soul at rest and a light yolk and easy burden?  (see John 15:5-11) and how do we do that like him?

  1. 1.          He abides/dwells in the father’s love. (last week)

(New)

Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, John 5:19

2. He ______________ his time with abiding as his _____________.

Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.  Luke 5:15–16

Jesus’ schedule was not dictated by the ___________ of people or the ____________ of culture rather He stewarded his time with abiding as his ______________.

If you want to have a light and easy yolk you have to learn to say ____, even to good things, in order keep the soul at rest in a place of abiding.

Jesus had ________________ from the father to say no to good things because his abiding with the father was the priority.

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed… Luke 5:16

As relational beings we are made for rhythms of being together in different ways, one of those ways being focused _________ time where we connect on a __________ level, a level that only happens when we are alone.

If even Jesus needed to do it, while on earth, how much more do ____ need to “often withdraw to lonely places and pray.”

If we want to do important things and have ____________ lives for God’s Kingdom, then abide.

Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

The world says you produce by ___________. Jesus says in the kingdom you produce by abiding and saying _____ to striving.

How do we discern “what the father is doing?” (Short answer)

God wants to grow each of us in hearing his voice more directly but God also calls us to be good stewards with what he has given us according to his kingdom values.  And the #1 kingdom value in discerning our ______________ and what God is doing is “do we have time to abide?”

Take home challenge…

Go through your calendar and steward your time with this lens…

Do I/we have time to abide alone with God on a daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal basis?
